We need to “stay on top”, “get ahead” or at least not lag too much behind. “Adapt or risk becoming irrelevant”, we’re being told. Lifelong learning used to mean a coherent journey of cultivating a vocation, not a demand for constant reinvention of the self. Confusing times. Tired times.
