Workplace Leaders Renewing Their City

Kuala Lumpur (KL) is the capital city of Malaysia and one of the fastest growing metropolitan regions in Southeast Asia.

Ethnic Groups in the City

Why Kuala Lumpur?

Over 76% of the Total Population is Urbanized…

Malaysia is home to 31.8 million people, and 7.5 million live in the Kuala Lumpur (KL) metro region. Kuala Lumpur is diverse and attractive for domestic and foreign businesses, as well as young professionals who are drawn to the city.

The country is multi-ethnic and multi-cultural with Malays (62 percent) and Chinese (21 percent) making up most of the population. Within Kuala Lumpur, religions represented are more diverse with 46 percent Muslim, 36 percent Buddhist, nine percent Hindu, and six percent Christian. The city is also home to thousands of refugees and migrants from surrounding Asian countries.

The workplace in Kuala Lumpur is known for long hours, high power distance in organizations, and long commute times. There is a growing number of young, Christian marketplace leaders who desire to see the Gospel impact not only their faith, but also work out how it integrates into their workplaces, their communities, and their city.

Meet our Kuala Lumpur City Director

Melissa grew up in a typical Asian household where worthiness is anchored to achievements and abilities. The theme of her childhood has always been - strive for success as the world defines it and struggling with the insecurity of being not good enough. When Christ met her at the age of 19, she began a deep transformation journey of embracing her true identity, the revelation of who she belongs to and the mandate given to her as a child of God.

Together with her husband Kenneth, they both serve as mentors with Resource Global and hold corporate roles in their respective organisations where they lead others. Resource Global has given Mel Godly perspective and language to share her excitement and love for the workplace and her country.

When Mel was asked to take on the KL City Director role, she thought “This work is important, I want to be part of what God is doing here”. Melissa believes in a generation of Christian marketplace leaders that are anchored in their identity in Christ, understands their mandate of the Gospel and is equipped with the courage and wisdom to lead, restore and renew their workplaces! She thinks Resource Global is a great platform for more to discover that.
